The chief executive at financially troubled Air Zimbabwe Peter Chikumba has relinquished his post after months of pay disputes, two strikes by pilots and mounting operational losses after he chose not to renew his contract that expired on December 31 after four years in the job.
Earlier this year, a panel of lawmakers investigating crippled transportation services reported that the airline was $64 million in debt, accumulating by another $2 million a month.
Pilots refused to fly in September and earlier this month, demanding some pay and allowances that had not been received for up to 20 months.
The board "accepted his position," Air Zimbabwe board chair Jonathan Kadzura told reporters on Thursday last week, Times LIVE reported.
